Escitalopram in Asthma Patients With Frequent Exacerbation

Asthma

Antidepressants, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as escitalopram are widely used for mood and anxiety disorders. However, they have also been explored, with promising findings, for a variety of disorders outside of psychiatry. Clinical studies of SSRIs in depressed people with asthma were associated with decreased asthma exacerbations and improvement in asthma control. In this study, the number of asthma exacerbations will be assessed as the primary outcome measure in patients using escitalopram vs. placebo.

Asthma Intervention With Residential Ventilation and Air Cleaner (AIRVAC) Study

Asthma Control Β· Pulmonary Function Β· Quality of Life

The primary goal of this study is to investigate the comparative long-term (i.e., 1-year) effectiveness of energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) and portable air cleaners (PACs) in reducing indoor air pollutants and mold levels and improving asthma-related health outcomes in inner-city children and adults with asthma in low-income households in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area, TX. Secondary goals include: (1) examining associations among asthma outcomes, exposure to indoor air pollutants and mold, and housing-related factors, (2) conducting a cost-benefit analysis of ERV and PAC interventions for improving IAQ, mold control, and health outcomes, and (3) evaluating the utility of cost-effective methods and protocols for measuring IAQ and mold for indoor air pollution epidemiology studies and for providing practical information to patients and their physicians. Using a double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized controlled trial, 80 households will be assigned to receive active or placebo versions of ERVs or PACs. Environmental exposures and housing conditions will be monitored alongside comprehensive health assessments, including lung function tests and validated surveys on asthma control, quality of life, stress, and sleep quality.

A Study to Learn About the Study Medicine Called PF-07275315 in People With Moderate-To-Severe Asthma

Asthma

The purpose of this clinical trial is to learn about the safety and effects of the study medicine (called PF-07275315) for the potential treatment of moderate-to-severe asthma. Asthma is a condition that makes it challenging to breathe, which negatively impacts the quality of life and functioning of people who are affected. This study is seeking participants who: * Are 18 to 70 years old * Have had moderate-to-severe asthma for at least 12 months that is not well controlled * Have been taking their regular maintenance treatment(s) for asthma over the last 12 months All participants will receive PF-07275315 or a placebo. A placebo does not have any medicine in it but looks just like the medicine being studied. PF-07275315 or placebo will be given as multiple shots in the clinic over the course of 12 weeks. We will compare the experiences of people receiving PF-07275315 to those of the people who do not. This will help us determine if PF-07275315 is safe and effective. Participants will be involved in this study for about 7.5 months. During this time, they will have 9 visits at the study clinic.

Viral Mucosal Reprogramming

Asthma Β· Allergic Rhinitis Β· Cat Allergy

This is a mechanistic, controlled, open-label, single-site study to evaluate the effects of RG-RV16 inoculation on airway mucosal gene expression and airway remodeling in 25 healthy controls (HC), in 25 allergic rhinitis subjects (AR) with cat dander allergy, and in 25 allergic asthmatic subjects (AA) with cat dander allergy. Three groups (HC, AR, and AA) will undergo screening to establish clinical history, will undergo pulmonary function testing (spirometry), and will have blood drawn for clinical characterization (IgE, , ImmunoCAP, CBC and differential), and for assessing the presence of existing neutralizing antibody against RV16.
